Children and adults use problem solving skills daily. They help us make decisions and most of our life depends on knowing how to problem solve. To most young children this important skill is foreign.

Teaching problem solving has lessened over the years, as the push down of non-appropriate education becomes the norm. Children are missing out on an important time in their lives, where they learn to solve problems. Quality early childhood programs encourage the development of this skill through trail and error, play, conversations, modeling, and listening to children's needs and wants.

The links below have some great ideas, activities, and advice on how parents too can work with their children on problem solving.

As we strengthen our early childhood programs and offer families high-quality centers, we will work to encourage the development of problem solving skills, and much more! Children who have good problem solving skills are able to apply them to their work in math, science, and other academic areas.
